Hell Everyone, I have an 'ebay special' GPS unit in the VW. It's a chinese one and I am having all sorts of problems. Before I get into the problems in detail - I am trying to figure out exactly what it is and what software it runs.
Use this control to limit the display of threads to those newer than the specified time frame.
Then I can get into why it's some problematic and maybe update the software and data files. Here are some pics to help identify the bugger and its system. I am a bit of a GPS novice but not too thick - go easy on me with the jargon till we get rolling pls. Regards, John. @ skiscotty From your screen shots, the navigation program it runs is an iGO8 v8.3.4.142975, which is not the very latest of their versions but still quite useable.
The map, Australia R17 is somewhat out of date, the latest one is version R18.3 13 Sep 2011. The other map, n. R6, is a New Zealand one, which probably wouldn't be of any use to you, but it is also out of date. It appears to be a 2DIN unit, one that is fitted in the dash of your car, usually in the place of the normal radio/cassette/etc. So what are the problems? Confucius say: Man seek advice in PM, deprive other of wisdom Man not do backup, himself deprive of wisdom. Hi Ulyssy, Yes - you are right on all counts, it is the in-dash 2DIN configuration.
Fitted to a VW and integrates quite well with the canbus controls. I am having lots of issues like, Freezing (need to turn off and back on to unfreeze), incorrect map directions, random error messages and other wierd stuff. Looses signal every now and then and then just comes back on a few minutes later (GPS sig is full bars mostly when this happens so dont understand it).
I checked the installation for loose connections to all the inputs (power, controls and signal) and looks OK, so I have but its behaviour down to software bugs. I would like to reload the whole shabang with current versions and data and see if I can improve it's performance - at the same time I would like to refresh the safety cam data set. Thanks for assistance. PS - I have read in this forum about finickey issues when unzipping and relaoding software. I want to make sure I dont make any of those errors along the way. Cheers, John.
I have primo running on my 2din(prado).dont touch the windows.licences are in the download.when you download it,unzip it with winrar.copy your version to you computer, just in case or use another sd card.format the card you are going to use.copy the unzipped program onto the card.2 things you need to know about your 2 din is 1-the baud/port settings(you will find them on your old igo inthe sys.txt folder) 2-screen resolution(from the same place) its all in the instruction download when you first go to use the gps you probably have to change the navi path to primo1.2/MobileNavigator robynk. @ skiscotty I agree with what robynk has suggested.
The easiest way to find your port number and baud rate, while you still have the iGO8 going, is to go to. 'Menu' 'Settings', and scroll to 'GPS'. If the message is GPS receiver is connected', un-tick the 'GPS Enabled' box and then click on 'Autodetect'. Wait for the scanning to complete and then click on 'OK' where it says 'GPS receiver has been detected successfully. On next screen click on 'GPS' and read the 'Port' and 'Baud Rate'. (in greyed out slots).
I suspect that your iGO8 'sys.txt' may not have that data listed. Confucius say: Man seek advice in PM, deprive other of wisdom Man not do backup, himself deprive of wisdom. Thanks Everybody - Primo is up and running on my system - too easy really. Auto detected Baud/port settings and screen res without a hitch - did not have to manually touch anything, just had to set path for startup so windows could find the executable as advised by Ulyssy. Question - there are 2 exe files in the zip file IGO.exe and IGO1.exe, i am running IGO1 - is that correct, what is IGO? Also there are 2 other zipped files 'branding' and 'data' - they are still zipped on the SD card, do they need to be unpacked as well??
Maps seem to be working fine and speed cams are coming up so all seems to be working. I got a trial copy of winrar off the web but it is a 40 day trial so i might try the download robynk has offered - is it a full version? Lastly - I dont love the default skin for primo but will play with that later.
Any ideas on nice clean looking skins would be appreciated. As I said - am driving north tomorrow so might have a few more questions when I get back. Thanks for all the input and support - fixmygps is a cool forum community. PS - does anyone know how I can add speed cams to my pajero MMCS? Cheers, John.

Ok - thanks for the final comments, lucky i left those 2 files zipped up. It was Bazzle's download so I will point windows to open IGO rather than IGO1. To clarify, we have 2 cars with GPS in the family.
The pajero with MMCS which i am trying to load speedcams and better poi; and the VW which has the chinese IGO (now running primo with up to date map and poi data). Any comments on skins for the IGO would be much appreciated - i dont think there is much that can be done for the Paj but happy to hear any bright ideas.
Cheers all - have a great holiday break (if you are getting one). PS - thanks for the zippers full vers's link.

Can I used map posted on this forum? How to upload to my GPS? My Garmin unit spec as below: Garmin Mobile XT Version 5.00.20wp Worldwide Roads Basemap V2.00 This GPS unit is running on WinCE 5.0 can it be used with software/map in this forum? Your unit probably is using an illegal version of GMXT which is why it can use Garmin maps. For your information this GPS I bought already preinstall with map that is come from this forum, that is why I know about this forum.
Now I just want to know how to Install new updated map on this forum to this unit. Hope you all can help me. One more thing, how can I help this forum? I would like to add a new track on the map but don't know how to.
